Description
X-13 was an experimental tail-sitting and vertical take-off and landing (VTOL) jet. In 1947 the US Bureau of Aeronautics granted Ryan Aeronautical a contract to research the creation of a vertically launched fighter jet-powered aircraft. In 1995 the second X-13 (54-1620) was constructed and actually flew test flights in this configuration, both for take-off and landing capture. It conducted one full-cycle flight and we eventually abanded for having no defined mission to perform. The feasibility was never destined to work.
